Wood rot on windows and trim in Charlotte NC

Wood rot on windows and trim in Charlotte NC

We recently went out and done an estimate on a home in the Charlotte NC area. This home was upwards of 1 Mill. And it was a surprise to me that the homeowner let the home go to this degree. You could tell there were quite a few water leaks on the roof that someone like Water Damage and Roofing of Buda would need to fix in order to stop the wood rot from happening again. Wood rot on windows and trim were found all over this home.

We will be trying to salvage some parts of the windows in order to keep cost down somewhat but some will be beyond doing that. And of course it is going to be a costly mistake for them to replace some of these units. It could have been avoided. Wood rot on windows can and will be expensive. Still, once it is fixed they can get these dressed up with some custom shutters and other protective measures.

Here are the areas of wood rot on windows that we will address.

The paint peeling here is the first contributing factor to these problems.

Left long enough it will have its effect on the window units and the trim work.

Something as simple as this is one of the first things people forget to do in maintaining there hoem. And as soon as something rots, they want to blame it on bad products or poor workmanship. And in fact its neither. Wood rot on windows will happen if left to the elements.

window at right Sun, rain, UV rays, and all that stuff will break down any product over time.

The best thing to do is to keep check on the exterior of your home as often as you can. If you notice things that do not look right, call your Charlotte handyman if you can not do it your self and have him look to see what needs to be done. Catch it early and don’t wait its only going to get worse and more costly.

A little caulking and paint will go a long way. Don’t wait 10 years to check. If you wait that long,, you are asking for problems.
