Today we changed out a 32” exterior door unit. The original door was wooden and just needed to be updated. We put in a new 6 panel steel door unit with 15 light glass insert. Which among other things allowed more light into the living space which was a plus. It will also last a good bit longer and will not require as much maintenance. We also installed new casing and brick mold and did all the necessary caulking using a dap 230 which is a 50 year caulk and its paint-able. This door does come primed and ready for paint. We installed also a new Kwick set lock set and had it keyed to match the other doors. This was a nice improvement.
We also installed approximately 60 feet of 4” baseboard, Caulked.
There was another opening that measured about 29”, not big enough for a 28” pre-hung door unit. Because the jambs on the right and left required the rough opening to be about 29-1/2”. What we ended up doing here is taking the latch side door jamb off completely, drilled into 8”X 8” beam (Which was the support for the second floor, This was a beach house) which was now going to act as the jamb. We then installed a stop on the back side of door nailed everything into place, caulked and installed trim work and latch plate. This project actually turned out pretty well considering there were not too many options for this situation. This was a bath and the old door was just a plastic Bi-Fold type and no one seemed to care much for it. So that’s why this was changed out.
So that was different types of projects that we did today, As a Handyman it is always changing. That’s what keeps it interesting.
