Handymen & Electrical work.

TIPS FROM CALL 1 HOME SERVICES, YOUR HOME REPAIR AND REMODELING COMPANY IN CHARLOTTE, N.C.

Let me tell you that my company gets asked on occasion if we have electrical licenses, And my answer has to be no. Now with that said. We do have an electrical contractor that we use when it’s called for or the job will be inspected. Also if a permit will need to be pulled. Those types of jobs are usually bigger and more in-depth than what a handyman will run into in most situations. As homeowners, you need to feel comfortable with the handyman that you have chosen to do your work, to begin with. And if you don’t think he is experienced with such as electrical don’t pursue him to do it.

But I find that a good Handyman will know how to take off most of the electrical situations that come up around your home. And to be honest it’s not that difficult. If you live in an apartment complex with a main electrical box at the center, there may need to be a change over of wires to copper cabling and others to ensure that all the electrics are working effectively, especially if there has been extensive damage over time. This first will need to be discussed with the handyman to see if they are able to do this, if not, an electrician will need to be brought in to make sure it is done correctly and safely.

To change out a receptacle, switch, Install a ceiling fan, light fixture, etc. is just not that hard if you have done enough times. 90% of the wire in your home will be Black, White, Ground (which will either be copper or green) And most of the fixtures that you install will have the same color wires. So you match them up and you should be good to go.

Now I want to mention that if you as a homeowner ever think of doing any electrical work around your home, Be sure the power is off, And purchase a tester so you can confirm that there is no current coming to the area that you are working on !! This is the first and foremost for anyone doing the work.

I’ve seen many times where someone thought the power was off and it wasn’t. So let’s make sure we cover this 1st.

If you need assistance with any and all of your home repairs and remodeling, please give us a call. We would be glad to help.
